# Rain Tally > Rain Tally is a virtual rain gauge for iPhone and iPad. It puts your past 7 days and your next 3 days on one screen, with your weekly target underneath, so you can decide whether to water or wait before you turn the sprinkler on. It's the only app in the category designed around the watering decision rather than the rainfall number itself. Available to download on the US App Store only; weather data works for any location worldwide. Disparate Elements is an independent software studio. The founders are engineers who garden, and Rain Tally came out of wanting a better way to track rainfall in our own beds and the community-garden plots where we volunteer. What sets it apart: - **What fell. What's coming. On one screen.** An inch a week is the rule of thumb for most plants. Set the target higher or lower if yours need something different. Rain Tally puts what's already fallen next to what's still coming, so the answer to "do we need to water?" is one glance, not a running tally in your head. - **Your rain gauge wins.** Rainfall is local at a resolution no weather service can match. When your gauge says one thing and the weather service says another, Rain Tally trusts your number. Log what fell, and every chart and total recomputes against your data. - **Yesterday's forecast becomes yesterday's measurement.** At the time of a storm, the precipitation amount shown in any app is still the forecast amount. After the rain, weather services read their rain gauges and update with actuals. Rain Tally keeps checking the data to convert the numbers in the app to real measurements after the rain has ended. - **Drop a pin on the map. Track a field with no street address.** The pin is there for the spots an address can't reach: food plots, pastures, the back corner of a property. Tap and Rain Tally captures the coordinates and picks up the local time zone. - **History and Trends.** The History screen shows a full year as a chart, table, or calendar. The Trends screen compares this year against every past year on record — and Rain Tally is the only rainfall tracking app that supports water year analysis (October through September), for commercial growers and water-resource managers. ## Key pages - [Home](https://raintally.com): The watering decision on one screen — past 7 days, next 3 days, and your weekly target.
